Iā€™m an Associate Professor in the Department of Linguistics and the New Zealand Institute of Language, Brain and Behaviour at the University of Canterbury, New Zealand. My research sits mainly in the areas of phonetics and sociolinguistics. I use large scale databases of spoken and written language, called corpora, as well as experimental methodologies, to examine how language is used and perceived by speakers, and how language changes over time.
